Greenhouse Gases
CO2 is the main greenhouse gas. It is generated when we burn coal, oil, gas and petrol. About 54% of greenhouse gases are CO2.

Methane is produced from landfill sites and by burning gas. It is also produced naturally by livestock. Methane contributes 12% to greenhouse gas emissions.
Methane (CH4)
- Greenhouse Gasses
Also known as 'laughing gas', N2O is widely used as a propellant in aerosol cans in place of the CFCs which damages the ozone layer.
Nitrous Oxide (N2O) 6%
Growing contribution to global warming. HFCs are used as a substitute for CFC gases in aerosol cans, which damages the ozone layer.
Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs)
Growing contribution to global warming. PFCs are used widely in the production of semiconductor devices.
Perfluorocarbons (PFCs)
Growing contribution to global warming. Utilised in the electric industry as an insulater gas.
Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6)
The earth's atmosphere consists of 20.6% Oxygen, 78% Nitrogen and 1.4% other gases. Greenhouse gases are part of the 1.4% other, but have a huge impact on global warming and climate change. The main greenhouse gases are listed below.
