Climate Change - Ecosystems
Coral polyps has in recent years started to suffer a marine heat-stroke, and turns white in the process (bleaching). It is estimated that in 1998 (hottest year on record) 1/6 of tropical corals were destroyed. This is significant because coral reefs are the most diverse ecosystem in the oceans - holding 9 million plants and animals - including 25% of all ocean fish.

As the northern icecap is melting, polar bears are finding it difficult to capture seals. It is predicted that the polar bear population will fall dramatically within the next 20 years.

- Ecosystems
Official figures show that 770 square miles of China turns to desert every year. Rising temperatures and declining rainfall has lead to rivers drying up and loss of habitats for plants and animals.
When it all turns to dust
It is scientifically recognised that most ecosystems are affected by climate change or will be affected in the next 20-50 years. This section describes just some of the many destructive changes taking place at this monent in time.
