China is also fast becoming the world's largest polluter, expecting to overtake the USA in the next 20 years when more and more of its 1.6 million people can afford cars, air-conditioning and other electrical items. The need for oil doubled in just 10 years between 1994-2004, and currently stands at 6 million barrels a day.

In 2003 China poured 44% of the world's cement. A clear signal that the Chinese government is trying to keep up with the economical expansion and increasing wealth of its population

If not addressed, the damage the Chinese economy can cause the planet is significant.
India's economy is growing fast, and like China it is changing into an industrialised nation. Income per capita is rising constantly and leading to an increase in private car ownership never seen before.
India
Most of India's CO2 pollution is caused by its need for electricity, which is produced by coal-fired power stations. Annual CO2 emissions grew with 60% in just a decade. The need for oil is expected to increase with 200% by 2025.

A particular point to make is that hydro-electric power generation has actually fallen in the last 25 years. From a high of 25%, India's hydro-electric power supply has been reduced and stood at just under 6.5% in 2001.
