The carbon Trust was established by the UK government and is responsible for managing the CCL schema.
Climate Change Levy
The UK government has already introduced the Climate Change Levy (CCL) to encourage certain industry sectors to reduce their emissions.

As the UK is not on target to meet its obligations under the Kyoto agreement or national CO2 emission target, many believe that the CCL will be extended and updated to force further reductions.

In addition, a voluntary Carbon Trading scheme has been introduced. The schema allows businesses to buy or sell units of carbon. This is again expected to lead to reductions in CO2 emissions.
