Britain's climate ambassador, John Ashton, has warned that climate change is "an immediate threat to the nation's security and prosperity and must be tackled whatever its cost."
Mr. Ashton warned that a "stable climate had to be secured whatever its costs because the cost of not securing it will be far greater.
In other news, George Osborne, the Conservative shadow Chancellor, confirmed that his party, if in government, would consider how a shift towards more 'green' taxes could be introduced rather than continue to rely on a taxation system, which primarily is based on wealth or income.
Mr. Osborne said that the Conservative party should "take a lead in making the changes needed to promote green growth"
