Giant windfarm approved near Glasgow, Scotland.
Final planning permission has been given to major new windfarm to be developed in Scotland near Glasgow.

The Whitelee windfarm, Europe's biggest, will cover an area of circa 35 square miles of moorland to the south of Glasgow. It will be home to 140 turbines, which will be able to supply 200,000 homes with clean and renewable electricity.

When completed in 2008, the 322 megawatt windfarm will contribute towards Scotland's 2010 target of generating 10% of its energy from renewable sources.

The developer, ScottishPower, is the UK's largest operator in its field. The renewable energy giant is already involved in the construction of an additional 500 megawatt capacity and have plans to further develop an additional 840 megawatt of wind energy.
