2006 UK Energy Review
The Governments long awaited 2006 energy review yesterday confirmed that "new nuclear stations would make a significant contribution to meeting our energy policy goals". The energy review aims to prevent Britain becoming increasingly dependent on imported gas, but does not spell out how many new 1000-megawatt reactors would be required in the future.

The energy review was greeted with mixed feelings. While nuclear energy will help combat carbon emissions that is causing global warming and help Britain meet its obligation under Kyoto, environmental organisations complained that the energy review did not focus enough on renewable energy forms - though the energy review recommends that these receive a huge financial boost from the Government too.
