President Bush urged to move away from immoral stance on global warming
18th May 2006
A leading UK environment group has in an open letter to the US President, the leader of the world’s worst greenhouse gas polluter, strongly urged Mr. Bush do reconsider his ‘indefensible and immoral’ stance on global warming.
More than 100 individuals signed the letter to the president, which argued that Mr. Bush was placing the interest of the USA above that of the planet by failing to accept the scientific evidence and by not signing up to binding carbon emission targets. A stance the supporters found both indefensible and immoral when taking into consideration the wealth and prosperity of the United States.
The online petition, launched in June 2005 by Carbon-info.org, was sent to the White House during the same month that new figures was released by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which confirmed that American greenhouse gas emissions during 2004 increased with a record 1.7%.
Carbon-info’s campaign manager Paula Bermann commented that: "The response to our petition, from many different parts of the world, confirms that global warming should be top of the political agenda - including the agenda in the White House."
