Dear Mr. Phillips,

A recent survey by the Energy Saving Trust has revealed that the average plasma TV adds about £100 to your energy bill each year and produces about 400 kg of carbon dioxide annually as a result.

Would it therefore not be correct of your publication to add a “green” or environmental rating for each of the products you feature, so that those considering a purchase can make an ethical and informed choice - rather than one based on “look and feel” alone.

May I suggest that a “green” checklist as a minimum should consider:
1) Energy Consumption expressed in kg CO2 per year.
2) Additional annual electricity cost in £s.
3) Can the television be turned off properly - avoids TV left in stand-by mode.
4) Where it is produced and the CO2 cost of transporting it to the UK.
5) The manufacture’s environmental track record.

As an organisation, we also feel that it would be responsible of your publication to feature a regular article about energy efficiency and how to minimise energy wastage from the range of products you review and promote.

I thank you for your time and hope that our observations may be considered favourably by your organisation.

Kind regards,

Flemming Bermann
