Letter to the editor - Transport plan shows why Labour must go
Sir,

During this week’s launch of the Government’s latest Transport plan, which supports continued UK airport and road expansion, Transport Secretary Ruth Kelly said: “We are responding to the economic challenge and the need to be green.“

What about the environmental challenge facing our planet? Surely the Government needs to do more than implement plans that merely tries to be “green“.

The old mantra of “economic growth at all cost” has brought the world to the brink of irreversible climate change and is no longer a viable strategy for any Government.

Ruth Kelly needs to understand that without a planet that will sustain human life, there will be no-one to use all the extra runways and roads she has planned.

A new political approach is urgently required. Unfortunately neither Labour nor Gordon Brown are unable to provide the leadership and courage required, which is the reason we are asking our many thousand supporters to vote Labour out at the next election.
