The AEECL has developed a 5 point conservation strategy:

1) Community-based protection of existing forest habitats

2) Large scale reforestation to extend and connect existing habitats

3) Education of local population including school children

4) Continuing scientific research to help conservation effort

5) Permanent presence of conservation staff in Sahamalaza
